Tessa Smits is a Dutch artist. She loves to work with the Dot technique (drops of paint) to create abstract paintings which are known for the explicit choice of colors and hypnotic patterns. She likes to put herself in a position of total freedom in which she intuitively starts, in service of the canvas, open for new way’s to create.
Most of the times she works from her studio in a rural mountain village in Andalucia (Spain).

‘The moment I felt the power of painting one paint drop at a time, I knew I was lost. Even though this might be the most time consuming way of making a work of art, it is also the most rewarding one. The lines & patterns for me feel like dancing (one of my other favourite things to do) and I’m always blown away by the the intensity in color and energy. My paintings can be experienced with different senses, people are drawn in by the patterns first, but once they are closer to the canvas they can’t help themselves and have to touch it.’
